Who’s Jack will be on the ground covering the London Collections this week. Following on from the successful launch in June 2012, the mens only showcase aims to provide an exciting new platform for menswear, hosted over three days in the capital.
London Fashion Week has frankly always been about womenswear. Menswear sat at the very end of the schedule, with a mere day to cram in all of the best designers. With fashion weeks happening back to back around the world, press and buyers were generally exhausted by the time they got to menswear day and ended up not giving it the attention it deserved.
The lack of focus on menswear seemed not only unfair but also did not match the current figures – men’s items represent 50 per cent of the global luxury apparel market and the men’s fashion market brought in £9.9 billion in 2011.* Consumers across the globe are clearly willing to spend money on good quality menswear.
This season over 60 designers will be showcased over three days – including big British brands such as Burberry and Vivienne Westwood, through to heritage brands such as Hardy Aimes and fresh talent such as Christopher Raeburn and Lee Roach. It is an exciting time for menswear, therefore it is only right that London should be taking the leap it is taking.
Keep an eye on WJ Online for all the latest reports, street style and goings on. Let’s hear it for the boys!
