It has been reported that Outkast’s Andre 3000 will play Jimi Hendrix in an upcoming film of the guitarist’s life by the Irish Film & Television Network.

There is a slight similarity in looks between the two musicians but will such a novice actor do the role of one of the music greats justice? Andre has had some film experience, though mostly in small roles. He was in Be Cool for example.

The film will be called All Is By My Side, written by John Ridley (Three Kings, U-Turn), and will start shooting in Ireland in three weeks time.

Andre and Jimi were both born on the 27th day of the month so they have that in common, maybe Andre can draw on that as inspiration? As for the guitar playing talent the two aren’t so similar, Andrea admitted to not being great on the guitar in his track, Hey Ya.

The film looks to focus on Jimi Hendrix’s career when he stormed through to the big time and moved to London in 1966.
