Tonight sees England taking on Sweden the next all-important Euro 2012 game however if you’re not a fan of sport and don’t fancy getting caught up in all the madness and excitement then here’s our pick of the best places in London to hide from the football tonight…
Nightjar, Shoreditch: If you’ve never been to speak easy and cocktail bar Nightjar before then tonight should certainly be the night you check it out. The venue often has live jazz and has a cocktail list so extensive and so expertly put together that it had every other Shoreditch venue quaking in its boots when it opened just a few years ago.
Worship Street Whistling Shop, Shoreditch: Ok so we know this is another East London venue but trust us when we say it’ll make the perfect hiding spot today. The Victorian themed drinking hole is inspired by gin palaces and was recently shortlisted for a Best New Bar in the World award.
The Ladybird, Angel: The Ladybird is one bar to head to if you fancy really letting your hair down tonight. It’s a relatively small space so gets full up quite quickly but if you head down early enough you’ll be sure to get in. It’s a late night music venue where anything goes, one minute you could be listening to jazz and the next thing you know Beenie Man will be playing.
Ye Olde Mitre Tavern, Farringdon: Dubbest London’s best hidden pub because of its obscure location this is a proper old mans boozer that is guaranteed to not be showing the football tonight. If you’ve not lived in London very long this is your chance to hang out in one of London’s oldest and finest establishments.
Paradise By Way Of Kensal Green: Ok so technically the Paradise are playing the football tonight but as anyone who’s been here before will know there’s enough hidden bars and dining rooms in this place to hide well away from it. Paradise has long been one of our favourite hang outs, firstly for their amazing gastro food and secondly because of it’s mish-mash of rooms each of which look completely different to the next. One minute you’re in a room that looks like a library and the next you’re in a room with a hanging disco ball. We love it.
