If you were too busy last night to tune into Blur’s live broadcast of their two new tracks then fear not because we have them below for you.
The four piece Brit pop band revealed two new tracks to fans last night, Under The Westway and The Puritan, over on their Twitter page. However keen Blur fans may have been left a tad disappointed as both these tracks have already been leaked online over the past month or two.
Under The Westway was performed by Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon just before the bands Brits performance while Albarn performed The Puritan on his own as part of a solo show he put on a couple of weeks ago.
So what do we think of the new tracks? Our favourite is definitely Under The Westway it has that typical Blur quality that fans of the band are going to find very comforting. If you listen closely to the lyrics too it’s a bit like a love song written for London which we have the ultimate respect for. However The Puritan leaves us feeling a bit, well… mehh. We’re not convinced of it’s circus like sound and the whole structure of the song seems a bit all over the place. Having said that fans of Blur’s earlier work such as There’s No Other Way may find it has them reminiscing about the sound the band had when they first hit the music scene.
The tracks have been released among speculation as to whether the band will actually be reforming to put out a new album or not. Despite reports that they had reentered the studio to record some new material both Albarn and fellow member Alex James have spoken out saying that they are ‘unsure’ about the bands future.
Blur will perform at London’s Hyde Park this August as part of the Olympic Closing Ceremony.
