This summer Film4 are once again returning to London’s Somerset House for their popular Film4 Summer Screen event. This morning they’ve released their programme of screenings so we’ve taken a look at it to work out what you should book tickets for…
On The Road: On 16th August Film4 will be playing the premiere screening of Kristen Stewart and Sam Riley’s new film On The Road. Based on a novel by Jack Kerouac the film tells the story of the Beat Generation as it follows three friends who share absolutely everything. They head out on the road together in the search of ‘it’ results. What we’ve seen from the film so far looks pretty good so this will definitely be one to go and see.
Sexy Beast & Drive: On 25th August Film4 will be doing a back to back screening of two of the best action packed films of recent years, Sexy Beast and Drive. Sexy Beast stars Ray Winstone who is a criminal who is tempted back from his retirement in Spain for one last job. While Drive, our favourite film of last year, stars Ryan Gosling as a brooding get away driver who lands himself in hot water when he agrees to help out the husband of the woman he’s in love with.
The Birds: As the BFI gear up for their Alfred Hitchcock season Film4 will be screening arguably his most iconic film The Birds on 17th August. If you’ve not seen this film before it’ll be a great chance to get a bit of a Hitchcock education and if you have this will be one of the first chances you’ll probably have had to watch it on the big screen… and with a glass of wine in your hand.
Lawless: Another UK premiere will take place on 27th August of Lawless, the new Western film from Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman. They play three brothers during the prohibition era who’s family business is threatened by some illegal liquor and some rather dodgy cops.
Other films being screened include Boogie Nights, Pretty In Pink and Apocalypse Now but you can see a full schedule by clicking here. Tickets go on sale next Friday (18th May) and prices start at £14.50 per person.
