For some time now the WJ crew had our suspicions that it could be some kind of vertical roller coaster however it seems that we’re, surprisingly, way off the mark.
Opening to the public on 28th July The Arcelor Mittal Orbit Tower is in fact a piece of art work created by Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor and is being compare (albeit in the press released) to the Effile Tower and St Paul’s Cathedral.
Standing tall at an impressive 114m high the tower is the tallest sculpture in the whole of the UK and cost a hefty £22.7 million.
If you’re looking at the image above and thinking ‘cor I’d love to go up that’ then fear not because for a steep £60 you’ll be able to take a lift to the very top of the tower where you can enjoy views of the Olympic Park and the whole of East London before making your way back to the ground down the spiralling staircase that wraps around the sculpture.
Now, we can’t lie that the ArcelorMittal Orbit doesn’t look impressive but we can’t help thinking that it looks a little out of place among the rest of the Olympic Park. And for the price it cost to make we can’t help but cynically wish at least some of that money had gone on something a little more worth while and permanent.
