Sir Richard Branson has pulled a US online advert for Virgin down that was deemed bad taste.
The advert shows a man surprising a woman with a wrapped up Christmas present, next to a caption that reads ‘Necklace? Or Chloroform?’
Chloroform is the anaesthetic that has been in the past used by criminals to dope victims; in particular, rape victims.
In response to the advert, Branson wrote on his blog that the advert was ‘ill-judged’, and that despite the fact he does not own the US Virgin, he would ‘make (his) thoughts clear and see what (could) be done about it.‘
Since then, the advert has been taken down.
