The Total Recall remake is edging closer to its UK release date of August 29th, so to keep you topped up until then here’s a brief ad for the movie.
While fans of the original Paul Verhoeven flick will be pleased to see a few little tributes have been made in the 2012 iteration, this seems to be every inch the modern interpretation of the Philip K. Dick short story on which both are based.
Each shot seems to be saturated with light and shiny surfaces, aping the style used regularly by J.J. Abrams, particularly in 2009′s Star Trek. Meanwhile Colin Farrell‘s Doug Quaid seems to be more stony faced and serious than Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s cartoony version of the character.
With all the CGI horsepower at the disposal of modern directors and no trip to Mars planned for this telling of the Total Recall tale, the movie looks a little more generic on the surface than its predecessor.
Hopefully the switch to a story of geopolitical intrigue that reflects contemporary issues will make up for any of the B-movie charm that has been shed in the modernisation process.
