We’re just a few days away from the release of the final movie in the Twilight saga, and what a ride it’s been! But of the four movies that have arrived so far, which moments have been the most memorable? Answer: These ten. Video links are included where available, folks! Some of which are weird fan edits, but there you go.
10) Edward’s sparkly revelation
Robert ‘Weird Nipples’ Pattinson’s Edward Cullen went all Romeo and Juliet in New Moon, believing Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan to have killed herself and deciding that the best course of action is to initiate his own suicide. This involves standing topless in the sunshine in Italy, for some reason. Like a glittery undead Jesus.
9) Charlie
Poor old Charlie. As Bella’s divorcee dad he should have enough on his plate, but when two magic creatures are trying to get in his daughter’s pants for five films in a row, it’s impressive that he can keep his moustachioed head. His discussion of safe sex in Eclipse is particularly good.
8 ) Edward + Bella, Sitting in a tree
The modest budget of the first Twilight movie meant that some of the special effects were charming in their cheapness. When Ed and Bella go on a little jaunt into the trees, the beautiful scenery is juxtaposed with some endearingly awkward scrambling reminiscent of something from The Exorcist.
7) Bella’s moody season-shifting sit
A little paper cut gets everyone hot and bothered in New Moon, so Edward ends things with Bella and she gets mopey. The shot of her sitting in one place as the seasons fly by is a masterpiece of self-indulgent teen navel-gazing. Or in other words, pitch perfect.
Edward’s superhuman speed and strength, as well as his true feelings for Bella, are revealed in the original Twilight when he saves her from a car carelessly driven by one of her classmates. Fun Fact: Robert Pattinson is actually that strong in real life. Probably.
5) Jacob and Edward’s long distance whispering
Breaking Dawn Part 1 is darker in parts than the previous films, but that doesn’t mean that it is without its preposterous scenes. When Jacob is patrolling the perimeter of the Cullen’s HQ and does a little sit rep report to Edward, each using their super-ears to hear the other talking at a normal volume from a hundred metres away, it’s time for smiles all round.
The most graphic scene of any Twilight movie occurs in Breaking Dawn Part 1, with the arrival of little Renesme being accompanied by plenty of gore and at least one death.
The Cullens are just a normal American family, with a touch of immortality and incestuousness thrown in for good measure. This means they love baseball. But with vampiric powers, it becomes a whole new game in the original Twilight. They’re so good the weather changes!
The consummation of a long burning lust can do some damage even when it’s held between mere mortals. But the kind of punishment that Edward manages to dish out to the bridal bed in Breaking Dawn Part 1 is enough to make a carpenter weep.
Hands down the best scene in any Twilight movie, this features the love-locked trio cosying up in a freezing tent in Eclipse. Edward’s clammy, chilled flesh can’t keep Bella warm, so Jacob has to clasp her close to his chiselled canine torso. Once she’s asleep, the two have an enjoyable bickering match.
