Social networks can do wonders to boost your confidence. People following your Twitter feed, fellow Tumblr users liking your posts and proudly looking at your 350 strong friend list on Facebook can all easily make you feel like the world cares. But a new Tumblr is here to remind you how different things can be.
The Screenshots of Dispair Tumblr contains dozens of screenshots from Facebook remind people just how lonely the site can be. From a screenshot that tells one user ‘you cannot be in a relationship with yourself’ to one that tells the user ‘It’s not your turn in any of your games’ the site actually makes for a pretty depressing read.
Social networker users are encouraged by Screenshots of Despairs creator Josh Kimball to submit screenshots of depressing messages they’ve been met with on Facebook and we’re ashamed to say the results have kept us quite amused.
Speaking to TechCrunch about the site Kimball said ‘I think the screenshots inspire pangs of real isolation. To me, the best of these screenshots are supposed to be practical social media interface elements, but they read as inadvertent commentary on one’s entire existence. Everyone has felt these pangs before.’
