When Avatar was released back in 2009 it became the fourth most successful film of all time so it didn’t come as a massive shock that James Cameron was keen to make a sequel. However news has broken today that we could see another three Avatar films being made.
We’ve known for some time now that the films director Cameron is planning on filming the next two Avatar films back-to-back which is no mean feat by anyone’s standards. However could it possible be true that he’s going to stretch himself even further by adding yet another film onto the end? Sigourney Weaver seems to believe so.
As one of the films stars Weaver has been speaking about the filming process to Showbiz 411 when she apparently told them that she was heading off to film not two but three Avatar films as soon as her present theatre and TV commitments are finished. Which if it’s true could mean that from 2014 onwards we’ll see an Avatar film released every year for three years.
Whether or not this is true or not hasn’t actually been confirmed but if what Weaver is saying is correct we certainly hope Cameron and his team can pull this off. While the first film was stunning and a first of it’s kind we’re not sure if releasing three spin offs might see the franchise running a little low on original content. Watch this space…
