When we told you back in May that popular Chelsea bar and club Public had shut down you were outraged with many taking to Twitter to express your sadness at your local haunt shutting down.
Well now the clubs owner Howard Spooner has been speaking out about his decision to shut the venue saying that the ‘Harry hunters’ e.g. girls who go there on the prowl looking for Prince Harry, are to blame.
The fact the club was co-owned by friend to the royal family Guy Pelly meant that he bought along with him some of his most famous family and friends including the princes. According to an interview in the Evening Standard with Spooner they would often turn away up to 1000 people a night as word spread that the sighting of a royal was likely.
The problem was that with all these extra people visiting came long queues of the dressed up and the drunk, something which bothered the venues neighbours and led to them complaining which in turn led to the council shutting Public down altogether. Speaking in the interview Spooner says of the situation ‘looking back, I see why they did it, because we couldn’t control the crowds that were out there’.
So there you have it. Prince Harry is partly, or entirely, to blame for the closure of one of London’s most famous and sought after drinking spots. Who’d have guessed it?
