We have been distracted looking at Martin Usborne’s pictures of dogs in cars for about 20 minutes now. We love them. And happily there is an exhibition coming up where you can see many of them in the flesh at The Little Black Gallery on Park Walk.
The exhibition runs from 19th March through until the 27th April. martin will be signing copies of his book of the same name on the 23rd March for any fans out there between 11.30am-12.3opm.
Martin Usborne’s photographs focus on the ever-curious relationship between humans and other animals. The Silence of Dogs in Cars was inspired by a childhood memory of waiting in a car whilst his parents were shopping in a supermarket, and the youthful fear that they would not return.
His “photographs are haunted by questions of muteness. Through Usborne’s lens, it appears that the dog left in the car speaks volumes that we cannot (or will not) hear”.
Usborne’s book The Silence of Dogs in Cars was awarded ‘Best in Show’ in the Creative Review Photography Annual 2012. He was also the recipient of the 2009 Taylor Wessing Award at the National Portrait Gallery for his photograph “Tiger, Rag, Johnny and Emma”.

A Year To Help: How Many Animals Can 1 Man Save in 365 Days?
A brilliant project where he helps and documents dogs that have been mistreated – all the while taking beautiful photos of them. Although a lot of the work Martin is doing on this blog revolves around spain he actually lives in East London with his wife and two dogs of his own.
