An upmarket art hub based in London’s Mayfair is under threat following the news of a £2 million development is coming to the area.
The battle to save Cork Street was kicked off this week as it was revealed that half of the galleries in the area were facing closure after the landlord of the space they’re based on revealed plans to sell off the space to make room for a huge new development.
Galleries such as the popular Bernard Jacobson, Messum’s and Hay Hill will all need to shut if plans go ahead in 2016. The move is a big dent to the area and combined with the fact several of the galleries on the other side of the street are being forced to close in 2013 to make room for yet another development and you can see why art fans are getting angry.
If you’re unhappy with the pressure being put on the galleries to close then you can sign a petition to prevent their closure right here.
