Thanks in the main to Dolce and Gabbana, tapestry is On Trend.
Think your nan’s carpet bag and that little cross-stitch kit someone inexplicably bought you for your 14th birthday (we wanted a Spice Girls Baby G watch) and you’re not far off.
We actually love the look. Just as Henry Holland took inspiration from crochet blankets a couple of seasons ago, so Dolce and Gabbana have turned to the kind of needlepoint that’s usually reserved for the pensionable.
As you’d imagine, the handywork that goes into these pieces is substantial and so are the designer pricetags. Dolce and Gabbana’s tapestry printed silk dress is available from Browns at a whopping £1,190 and this medium fabric bag would set you back £1,575.
Luckily, the highstreet is officially On It. We can’t find Topshop’s awesome Adios Tapestry Western boots in any of the stores, but they’re online for £62, alongside this knitted tapestry dress for £42 and Co-ord tapestry trouser for £40. There’s a matching jacket for £68 but we wonder if too much tapestry might have you looking more carpet than couture, no?
ASOS have been busy with the needlework, too. These Vita tapestry ankle boots incorporate the flatform trend quite nicely in a two-birds-with-one-stone fashion fix for £55.
We’re almost tempted to take up needlepoint ourselves. We’ll probably just go to Topshop though.
