As of tomorrow (19th September) a huge new Sound Portal will be installed in Trafalgar Square as part of the London Design Festival.

Year on year the Design Festival brings some of the most innovative installations and structures to London’s landmarks and venues and going on what we’re hearing about the Sound Portal 2012′s festivities are not going to disappoint.

Named Be Open the structure will stay in Trafalgar Square until 23rd September and aims to focus on an element of design that you cannot see – sound. Using audio technologies the rubber structure will play acoustic music from one of five different artists already signed up for the project. Each of the artists have created an original piece aimed to enhance your senses and create a unique soundscape.

It’ll certainly make a nice change from the sounds of pigeons cooing and drunk men shouting at passers by while lying on the fountains edge…
