The tragic news last week of the boy who was crushed by a falling shop sign on Camden Road has struck a chord in many.
Up until now though the only details of who this person was were his age and his sex. This morning it is revealed that the victim of the shop sign was Jacob Marx, a lawyer from New Zealand who was on holiday in London with his girlfriend.
He had arrived in September as part of a massive round the world trip.
The 30ft William Hill betting shop sign fell on Jacob and crushed him and although passers by tried to lift the sign off so that paramedics could save him he later dies in hospital of a heart attack.
Jacob’s family have today spoken of their tragic loss and how difficult it is “losing him so quickly and so far away”. There are now tributes where the sign fell, one reading “Jacko -This is not how it was supposed to go. We had so many good plans and so many good memories. I promise never to forget you.”
Residents have told police that the sign had been hanging lose for almost a month and an investigation is going on currently as to how this could have been allowed to happen.
Our hearts go out to his friends and family.
