Smoke Fairies are a name you may or may not recognise just yet but you will soon. These two girls have just taken their husky female vocals on tour with Jack White. Jessica Davies and Katherine Blamire have been touring Britain, Europe and America for the past year picking up a multitude of followers on their merry way.
Jack White produced a one off single for Smoke Fairies in 2009, Gastown / River Song and always a pioneer for new ventures and music he is still supporting them now.
The Smoke Fairies have toured with Jack through the UK and Paris and now have their own London show coming up on the 28th May at the Tabernacle.
This music video for single, The Three Of Us is taken from their forthcoming EP also titled The Three Of Us. The video was directed by Alex Southam and was shot along the south coast during a road trip last month.
The Three Of Us is the first single to be taken from the Smoke Fairies second album Blood Speaks, due out on the 21st May on V2 Records which follows on from their 2010 debut, Through Low Light And Trees.
The new album was recorded in West London rather than Cornwall where the girls penned and recorded their first. Katherine said ‘We tried to break out of the different forms which you can get restricted by in folk and blues,’ The girls recorded that after spending some time out of London they were ready to come back, no longer feeling ‘trapped’ by the city.
Speaking about the new album and the return to London Katherine adds: ‘Before the city felt like a trap to us. Like on the first album, we wrote Devil In My Mind, about feeling crushed by London. But as the title track symbolises, we’ve made peace with the city.’
