We could call this a trend, but really it’s more of a necessity. Slippers are hot for Autumn Winter 12 folks, and every AW after and before since time immemorial.
For some reason it tends to be a largely female populated shopping ground; the only males we know with slippers are under 10 and wear those monstrosities that look like they’ve stepped in a roadkill bear.
Anyway, with this in mind we’ve lined up some of our favourites and lo, there are some trends coming through, even in the slipper world. Because fashion never sleeps – or rather, fashion never puts on some faded trackies and a pair of slippers from Christmas 2005 – and neither should you!
Fairisle
The intricate knitting technique of Scottish island-dwelling grannies has been big news in fashion of late. There’s loads of options out there, but we like these snuggly Fairisle booties from New Look (£12.99).
Old school slippers
Every stylish person has been walking around outside looking like they’ve borrowed their nan’s slippers this season, and unsurprisingly this has had an effect on actual slipper trends. These monogrammed (with ‘Bisous’ – we’re not sure, either) Ermine French slippers from Topshop (£14) are nice.
Tapestry
Speaking of nans, Dolce & Gabbana made tapestry on trend this season. Accessorize’s rose jacquard boots (£20) are a good slipper version of the trend.
Leopard print
Any kind of animal print is a trend at the moment. These slippers are from River Island for £13.
They also do a matching onesie about which we can only implore you NOT to do it. Particularly if you intend to go outside. Loungewear lecture over, as you were.
