After a campaign by local residents the Shoreditch Town Hall has been saved and will now be reopened as an arts centre.
Anyone who regularly visits Shoreditch will know that the Town Hall is something of an iconic feature in the area but it was put under threat when a group of developers announced they were going to be taking over the building and turning it into flats.
After much campaigning from those who love the building the Town Hall will reopen tomorrow as a huge arts centre that will host a varied schedule of music, theatre and art events.
An impressive £1.6 million for the re-launch was raised by those who live in East London who held a series of fund raising events and it seems that their hard work has paid off. Once it’s opened the centre will be bigger than the Battersea Arts Centre and will no doubt go even further to cementing Shoreditch as the arts capital of London.
