The Sex Pistols have turned down an offer to play at the London Olympics 2012 closing ceremony.
Some might say that the Sex Pistols were a pretty odd choice of performance anyway but it seems someone on the board wanted them.
The Guardian reported that the band said a pretty blunt ‘no thanks’ to London Olympics organisers when asked to participate in the commemorative closing ceremony.
The surviving members of the Sex Pistols are led by frontman John Lydon (the erstwhile Johnny Rotten), and a spokesperson for the band has refused to comment. The Telegraph has suggested that this is a straight ‘snub to the establishment.’ Still got the punk mentality then after all these years. Maybe the surviving members should have said that they would do it on the condition that holograms of the members lost be generated on the stage to play with them such seems to be the theme of the day.
The Olympics 2012 closing ceremony will be called the ‘Symphony of British Music,’ and will celebrate 50 years of U.K. pop.
The show’s choreographer describes it as an ‘elegant mash-up of British music,’ that will place on August 12th. So far people saying yes to involvement are the likes of Adele, Sir Elton John, the Rolling Stones and the Spice Girls.
