In a bid to calm down hectic shoppers – we didn’t realise we were doing all that much shopping at the moment but hey ho – Selfridges have introduced a silent room.
Maybe you do need to calm down from your shopping or maybe you need a quiet space to persuade yourself that no, there is no valid reason for you to spend over £500 on a pair of shoes. Either, or, it might be a nice sanctuary for those just looking for a little break from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street.
Architect Alex Cochrane has designed the quiet space which is white and dimly lit which all aids to relaxation. But don’t think you can pop in there to catch up on FB on your phone or similar, this room is so silent all phones and alike are to be left at the door.
In real life it all sounds a bit awkward, sitting in a room full of silent strangers and how they intend to police whispering group shoppers, we are unsure. But in an idyllic world it sounds like a nice little rest bite.
