Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Ashby, a designer who’s name you might not recognise but who’s work you certainly will.
That’s because Ashby’s work can be found on almost every corner, on your commute to work, at your bus stop, even on the side of buses themselves and that’s because Ashby is responsible for designing film posters for some of the biggest movies ever released.
Each of Ashby’s posters aims to capture what the film is all about with just one image and has been responsible for master minding posters for films like We Need To Talk About Kevin, Wim Wender’s Alice In The Cities and posters for BFI and music group Weeknd.
If that wasn’t enough to keep him busy Ashby also runs his own film magazine Little Joe which he describes as ‘the magazine I always wanted to read’. Little Joe looks at ‘film but from a queer historical context’ and has become a big hit with film lovers everywhere.
