Robert Pattinson has announced that he will be playing the writer Thomas Edward Lawrence in new film Queen of the Desert.
It’s not a secret that Pattinson has been desperately trying to distance himself from his role of Edward Cullen in the Twilight series. Recently we’ve seen the London born actor taking on a series of more serious film roles including an adaption of Don DeLillo’s Cosmopolis and now this role as the author of the classic book Lawrence of Arabia.
Directed by Werner Herzog and also starring Naomi Watts Queen of the Desert is set to tell the story of English writer Gertrude Bell who was also a big political figure for the British Empire and happened to be a good friend of Thomas Edward Lawrence.
Now the film is going to be in an independent production but putting someone like Pattinson in a leading role is going to give the film a big boost in popularity (and probably budget) so this could end up being a bigger production than we already thought. But one things for sure, they’ll need to move fast because Prometheus director Ridley Scott is already working on another film about Bell and it’s rumoured to star Angelina Jolie and no doubt Herzog will want to get hit out first.
