The Ritz are to give their afternoon tea menu a make over after more than 100 years of it being exactly the same.
Since opening its doors in 1906 the famous Mayfair hotel has decided to ditch ‘foreign’ food types like French pastries for a ‘best of British’ menu which will focus on the types of food us Brits do best like Victoria sponges, lemon meringue pies and Eton mess. The move comes ahead of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and of course this Summer’s Olympic Games with the hope that tourists and visitors to the capital will pop in for a taste of what it’s like to br truly British.
Afternoon tea at The Ritz will set you back £42 per person for traditional tea and £54 with a glass of champagne and while the prices will remain the same the stuff you get to eat will now be ‘quintessentially British’.
