Ted, a film about what happens when the cameras stop rolling after a child’s wishes come true is created by those very same people as make a firm favourite of mine, Family Guy.
For anyone unfamiliar with the film it is based around a teddy bear that comes to life after an 8 year old boy wishes he could talk to him. This is all lovely and snuggly but of course translated to real life the boy eventually grows up and so does the bear leading to some interesting and many sexual funnies along the way.
The film starts Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Giovanni Ribisi and Seth MacFarlane and has been hyped as a hugely funny film. However as is the case with many things that are overly hyped they often fall short on expectation.
Don’t get me wrong, Ted has some real laugh out loud moments but anyone (as many people have been saying) that tells you its belly laughs all the way through is setting you up for disappointment.
Most of the humour is sex and shock based. Ie what’s the most awful thing we can have a magical teddy bear say. I feel they could have done lot more with the set up than they did when it came to gags.
Having said that there is a cameo from Flash Gordon that is going to make any 80s child wet themselves with excitement.
All in all it is a good film, I don’t want to be too harsh as it has feeling and funnies in equal measure it just could have turned the temp up a little. Oh yeah, and someone really needs to tell Mila Kunis to try something other than that middle parting.
Overall it’s not bad but not brilliant. As time goes on I am just remembering the really funny bits and I now want to find myself a talking stuffed bear.
