It’s been a good year for PJ Harvey after returning with her first new album in two years, Let England Shake, she quickly picked by the Mercury Prize and now she has another award to add to her mantle piece.
The singer has beaten competition from Bon Iver, Paul Simon, Radiohead and Fleet Foxes to pick up the Uncut Music Award for 2011. A seven person panel including comedian Steward Lee and Uncut editor Allan Jones picked the album from a shortlist of artists who have released albums this year.
Speaking about what the award means to her PJ Harvey said, ‘I’m very pleased to get the Uncut Music Award 2011, and it strengthens my desire to carry on pursuing the avenues of work I have been for the last 20 years. It strengthens my conviction to always trust my instincts and to continue to do work of meaning and importance, in some way.’
