A rare set of Picasso etchings have been bought for the British Museum by a very generous City financier.
The 100 Vollard suite prints were produced between 1930 – 1937 and are some of the most important pieces of work of the 20th Century. The financier forked out £1million so that the museum could become the only institution in the UK, and one of just a few around the world, with ownership of works from this series which are said to be a diary of Picassos thoughts and dreams throughout the 1930s.
A free exhibition of the prints will go on display between 3rd May – 2nd September.
