A pedal powered coffee tricycle has been designed right here in London.
Royal College of Art graduates Amos Field Reid and Lasse Ovia have created Velopresso an innovative and seriously cool looking trike that makes fresh coffee.
The design duo have already collected prizes for the piece with the prototype Velopresso being awarded the Deutsche Bank Award for Design as well as coming second in the Pininfarina Design Contest.
This is literally a coffee machine on wheels which transforms from a tricycle to a funtional serving cart to supply coffee lovers with their favourite drink. Once stationary, the gears have been altered so that the pedals switch from powering the cart to the grinder making double shots in seconds.
With the Velopresso there’s no electricity, no motors and no noise which is definitely good for those with a heavy head in the mornings. Hot water is currently generated by gas but the designers hope that soon they will be able to power the portable boiler with the ground coffee waste by recycling the used grinds into ethanol.
We recon once its put into production the Velopresso sustainable tricycle will be all over London’s streets and for those of you who love independent coffee this can only be good news.
