Oyster Cards, as practical as they may be, aren’t really known for being that stylish (unless you count the novelty ones released for this year’s Jubilee and Olympic Games).
However, thanks to London-based digital designer/art director Dhani Sutanto, that could be all about to change. He’s managed to create the world’s very first Oyster Card ring.
The process involved soaking an everyday Oyster card in acetone, to remove the chip and antenna – these were then cast into a wearable chunky resin ring, which can be swiped at a bus or Tube station as normal. We like the idea – you’d never hold up the line fumbling for your travelcard wallet again.
It’s a pretty safe bet that hacking into a registered TFL device isn’t 100% legal, so we don’t recommend trying this one at home – but with any luck, it might inspire other designers to start making similar style-savvy tech accessories. Next stop: debit card bracelets? House key nail varnish? We can only dream…
