As far as nail trends go we thought we’d seen it all. From the caviar manicure to transferes of Ryan Gosling’s face we’ve seen plenty of new trends emerging this year. And the latest one to take centre stage? Suede nails.

Now the trend has been around for a little while, along with velvet style nails, with brands like OPI already releasing manicure sets to achieve the trend but now that Rihanna has joined the party it’s bound to get even bigger. The singer took to her Instagram today to show followers her new suede nail manicure (above) and the social network community started going wild for it.

The concept is simple with most brands opting for one simple nail vanish which is matte and gives the impression your nails have been covered in suede. However some brands and beauty shops also offer manicures complete with shreds of suede being placed on the nail. Although if they’re anything like the matte nail vanishes you can buy they may start to appear slightly shiny after just a few days.
