The remake of RoboCop is currently being filmed and the first pictures of the titular cyborg have emerged, causing a rash of debate and discussion online.
ComingSoon.net managed to acquire the two snaps, which show actor Joel Kinnaman obscured almost completely within the all-black robo-suit, striding with purpose towards the camera in the first and heading to his trailer in the second, with his face exposed.
Directed by Jose Padilha, who is best known for Brazilian cop franchise Elite Squad, RoboCop will be out in the UK next August; part of a rash of 1980s and 90s remakes that has included the boring Total Recall and the stellar Dredd 3D.
The RoboCop costume itself looks suspiciously similar to the Batman armour sported by Christian Bale in the recent Dark Knight trilogy, albeit without the cape or pointy ears. Its matte black finish lacks the metallic sheen of the suit worn by Peter Weller in the original.
It doesn’t take a hawk to spot that the new suit also appears to give RoboCop a hand made of flesh, suggesting that the scientists who saved him managed to salvage more than just his brain and chiselled jaw. Who knows what other pink protuberances might still be attached to the modern mechanical enforcer.
The internet has been quick to supply its own take on the suit, with the following post on social sharing site Reddit showing that fans might prefer a more traditional look for the remake.
