New plans have been unveiled for the London Olympic Park. The renovated site will re-open on July 27th 2013 (a year after the 2012 opening ceremony) and it will be known as the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Acres of new parkland will be added in replacement of the riverbank and waterpolo arenas. The Stadium and Multi-Use arena will be used to host sporting events, such as the 2015 Hockey Championships and 2017 World Athletics Championships, as well as music festivals. The public will also have access to the Acquatics Centre pools and the VeloPark, to swim and cycle, respectively.
The Queen Elizabeth Park will be fun and lively, with interactive installations such as the ‘Fast, Faster, Fastest’ game, where you race against lights that show your speed next to world champions.
There will be lots of art, including Monica Bonvici’s sculpture ‘RUN’, the UK’s largest piece of public art, the 114 metre tall ‘ArcelorMittal Orbit’, as well as street performers in the South Park.
If you’re so wowed by the new plans that you fancy living at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, good news- you can! Five new neighbourhoods are being built, and up to 8,000 new homes will be available. Mostly the houses are three-beds for families. In addition, there will be 12 new schools and nurseries, 3 health centres, and a library.
