Black taxis have long been synonymous with London. Along with Big Ben and Buckingham Palace they’re a symbol of the city that is recognisable in every country across the world.
But now the London black taxi has been given a make over by Nissan who will shortly be releasing their NV200 as an alternative to the more traditional cars. It’s been created alongside the London Taxi Company and will prove to not only be much cheaper than the old model and will also use less petrol to the gallon making it a much cheaper and much smarter model.
But do we really want to see these new designs on the road? Our initial thought process is, not really. There’s something quite great about the current model which, while we know time changes, makes our taxi’s stand out from those around the world. There’s also something quite nice about their rickety old seats, their slightly musty smell and their shabby exteriors which we wouldn’t want to see disappear.
