East is getting a lot of redevelopment what with the Olympics so close and all and now if you live in Dalston, Deptford or Canada Water you can expect some nice new libraries.
Hackney opens the doors on a new library January 23rd that once open will be one of the largest in the UK.
The new library, called Dalston C.L.R. James library will be twice the size of the one that was there before with three floors full of lovely pages adding up to around 32,000 books, DVDs and CDs.
The library will also have 57 computers and free wifi throughout, as well as a cafe! How modern!
See, not all libraries are being closed down.
The opening hours will be 9am-8pm Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm Saturday and 1pm-5pm Sunday, some of the longest in London; except for the library at the newly opened Deptford Lounge, which is open 7am-10pm Monday-Friday and 7am-7pm on weekends.
Lewisham Council’s new library aims to be ‘a living room in a city‘ with a sports court on the roof the library comes as part of the Deptford regeneration scheme.
Southwark, has also just opened a new ‘super library‘ at Canada Water. Also with a cafe and wifi.
