Jo Malone London launches its latest fragrance collection, Blackberry & Bay on Saturday.
The campaign images are lovely; all rosy cheeked kids gambolling through fields with sticky, blackberry stained fingers. We’ll be honest, this doesn’t necessarily evoke the childhood memories it’s meant to for us. I can vaguely recall my older brothers telling me not to pick the fruit at the bottom when we tried blackberry picking for the first and last time along a path well-trodden by dogwalkers.
But we’ve had a sneak preview of the scent and can tell you it’s lovely. Not as sweet as you might expect, the bay takes the edge off blackberry and grapefruit, and the cedarwood base lends it a unisex quality.
As well as the cologne there’s a body cream, body and hand wash and a candle with Jo Malone London’s signature silver lid.
Jo Malone London encourages fragrance combining with all its colognes; we’re reliably informed that particularly good combos for the Blackberry and Bay are Lime, Basil and Mandarin or Nectarine Blossom and Honey for a ‘green, herbaceous edge’.
Speaking of which, we’re impressed with the company’s latest green-fingered charity programme.
Jo Malone Limited has teamed up with gardening charity, Thrive to offer disabled people the chance to regenerate London’s Old English Garden in Battersea Park.
Trainee gardeners embark on a programme for up to two years with the chance to gain a vocational qualification at the end of it. The garden is designed by Chelsea Flower Show medallist, Sarah Price and is already being worked on.
Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to impart our limited knowledge of blackberry picking in the midst of dogs to a willing child.
