The man behind Leeds and Reading will launch a new festival come 2013. Melvin Benn is the MD of Festival Republic and has worked on Reading and Leeds since the early years.
Now though he wants to create a festival on a smaller scale than these two monsters with an independent twist.
Festival Republic has huge experience with festivals in general, not just Reading and Leeds. With Latitude Festival in East Anglia also on their books and the recently dropped Big Chill as well as Glastonbury for 11 years they are veritable festival veterans.
Full details are expected to be released in October but for now Benn has said of the new venture : ”It’s going to be a very small festival, very independent, very tiny,”
This is an interesting announcement after a good handful of boutique and independent festivals were forced to cancel this year due to not being able to cover costs or weather or location issues.
Clearly this new festival will have the might of Festival Republic behind it though so although it has an independent feel we doubt Benn will be going it alone.
Some might say that this is a direct result of Festival Republic closing the door on Big Chill that they used to manage up until this year when the festival lost too much money to carry on. Clearly a swap in tactics was required.
We are excited and awaiting further details.
