For every Libertines fan around the world, and especially those at Reading or Leeds festival 2010, the reuniting of the notorious band was a defining moment. Every die hard Doherty freak and every fan that was too young to see them live the first round watched in awe as the band played “What became of the likely lads” like they’d never even called it a day in the first place. It was emotional. No… really.
Once again, Carl Barat has hinted at yet another reunion, this time via Twitter. He tweeted; “Well what can I say? Is another reunion pushin it? I’m up for it…?”
This is, of course, not the only time another reunion has been spoken about. Whether it was getting fans hopes up by stating the band may well “Pick up where they left off”, or squashing them in March of last year by saying that despite the speculations, another reunion was definitely not in the pipe line. SO WHAT THE FRICK IS IT CARL?
With Pete Doherty having just checked himself into a rehab in Thailand, a reunion (for which both he and Barat would be expected to be on top form for) would seem to be pretty badly timed. Unfortunately, I can’t help but get the feeling that with all this will they/wont they constantly surrounding a Libertines reunion, the buzz for their return is getting smaller and smaller.
Who knows. But if they’re gonna do it again, it had better be good.
