Aminaka Wilmont LFW SS13
Maki Aminaka Löfvander and Marcus Wilmont aka Aminaka Wilmont showcased their Spring/Summer collection at Somerset House. Somehow I managed to get both backstage AND front row so I got a good view of the collection. Backstage was hectic, with makeup artists applying floral tattoos to the models whilst hair carefully coiffed and re-coiffed their hair.
Front row with Jodie Kidd sitting opposite, Aminaka Wilmont’s Spring/Summer collection was set to a head-bopping sound track, including a track from Sweden’s Little Dragon, where Aminaka hails from. Aminaka Wilmont say their trademark pieces are “Experimental drape dresses in abstract prints and asymmetric distressed leather jackets”, and this collection certainly lived up to that, with beautiful floral print dresses in a range of lengths and necklines, from long and flowing, to short and structured. The collection then moved on, mixing the floral print with darker stripes. This made the floral print stand out more and became the focus of the pieces.
The collection became darker still, with the stripes jumping from dresses to shirts to shirt dresses and then transforming into a black and white print that had a faint leaf pattern. Leather jackets also started to appear, in both white and black, paired with floral print leggings in shades of faded purple and red. It was a collection that was very much wearable and when it was over there was much excitement over what was going to be bought from the collection in the coming months.
