Wes Anderson is reportedly casting Johnny Depp in his next film The Grand Budapest Hotel.
We last saw a Wes Anderson offering in the form of art-house flick Moonrise Kingdom, which starred the likes of Bruce Willis, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton.
Anderson will now write and direct new project The Grand Budapest Hotel whilst also producing the feature with longtime collaborator Scott Rudin, who he has worked with on past films including The Darjeeling Limited and Fantastic Mr. Fox.
Johnny Depp was recently seen in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows as vampire Barnabas Collins and is currently working on the Disney project The Lone Ranger for Disney, which also stars Armie Hammer, best known for his role as the disgruntled Winklevoss twins in The Social Network. (Yes that’s their real life last name)
In addition to Depp, Wes Anderson is also set to be considering the likes of Jude Law, Jeff Goldblum, Willem Dafoe and Angela Lansbury for Budapest as well as usual suspects Bill Murray and Owen Wilson.
With Moonrise Kingdom featuring some interesting casting choices it is clear that Anderson is becoming a little more creative with his line up, likewise on Depp’s part this role is definitely something different as the film will bring him together with a very particular filmaker, known for personal his style.
Wes Anderson strikes a parallel here with directors such as Tim Burton, who coincidentally has a longstanding professional relationship with Depp, as the two have a clear world they create in their films and particular characters they imagine in them.
This casting has the potential to have some interesting results and we’re definitely excited about it…
