WJ recently dropped by Jimmy’s Supper Club at Annex East where until mid August you can have a five course feast right next to the Olympic Village.
Situated in a converted warehouse, a mere 100 meters from the Olympic site in Stratford is the latest pop up from Jimmy Garcia, who’s known for previous foodie destinations The Wild Food Kitchen and SouthWest Supper Club.
The menu boasts beautiful British produce and recipes with a modern, quirky twist. To start we sampled the Smoked British Duck Breast with British Cherry 3 ways. This involved a Cherry Compote, Cherry Coke Reduction and the only let down of the evening the Savoury Cherry and Earl Grey Cupcake. It was too stodgy and dry to go with the tender duck.
The true “melt in your mouth” moment at Jimmy’s came with the Trio of Pork main where Crisp Pork Belly, Confit Cheek and Pancetta Crisp were served on a Spiced Apple Puree. All porky parts were cooked beyond perfection, leaving us wanting more. We even had a taste of the veg option, a Wild British Mushroom Brioche Bread and Butter Pudding, which was particularly tasty with it’s Whisky Jus. The dish was an imaginative take on a vegetarian course avoiding the fail-safe that is the Risotto.
As well as serving up some seriously delicious food the team have taken particular care to include well matched wines from South London’s D Vine Wine (yeah, we see what you’ve done there). Our favourite tipple of the evening was a subtle pink fizz with delicate berry notes that was so good, we could have had the whole bottle.
Entertainment is also high on the menu at Jimmy’s Supper Club with special Olympic film screenings (yet another excuse to see Cool Runnings), live music, DJ’s and fine art exhibitions, tonight there’s even a quiz.
Did we mentioned the bar is fully licensed all day?
Tickets for the evening events start from £27 we recommend if your in the area – getting all Olympic, it’s worth checking out.
