Daniel Craig is to play a part in the Olympics opening ceremony as his most famous character, James Bond.
Craig has apparently teamed up with opening ceremony artistic director Danny Boyle to make a short film entitled The Arrival which see’s James Bond taking a visit to Buckingham Palace where he is told that his next mission is to help launch the Olympic Games. In the film Bond is flown by helicopter to the Olympic stadium in Stratford where he is seen parachuting into the arena.
For the film Craig and Boyle were apparently given unprecedented access to the Palace and it’s private rooms after the Queen personally gave permission for them to film there. The news was revealed in todays edition of The Sun who spoke to a source who said, ‘It’s a huge coup for BBC producers and Danny to be allowed into the palace and have the Queen involved. They wanted the most iconic British film character inside the building most associated with London and with the monarch – and they got it. It will be a magical scene for all watching at home and inside the stadium on 27 July. Working out the logistics of filming has taken months and hasn’t been easy – but it will be worth it in the end.’
The film will be showed on the BBC as part of their coverage of the opening ceremony.
