Jake Gyllenhaal has announced that he is teaming up with Half Nelson directors Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden for a new independent film Mississippi Grind.
What we’ve always respected about Gyllenhaal, and to some extent his sister Maggie, is that he’s always been an actor who takes roles in films because they stretch him or are slightly ‘out there’. Rather than just taking every big film role that comes his way (of which we’re sure there are many) he seems to be quite selective.
Which is why we know that Mississippi Grind is going to be a real film to look forward to. In the film the actor will play a gambling addict who ends up going on a journey south with a man who is trying to reclaim all the money he’s lost through gambling.
At the moment they film hasn’t gone into production and there’s still the small task of sorting out the rest of the casting but we imagine we will get to see the film in full late 2013 or early 2014.
