Ikea’s property building arm, as we told you yesterday has put in planning to build a whole Ikea village in East London called, Strand East and here are a few pictures of what Ikea has up their sleeve.
Intended is a five-quarter urban planning project on a former industrial site just south of olympic park. It’s all pretty futuristic really with the place being designed to prevent residents from needing to drive to accomplish daily errands by including pedestrian-only streets and zones as well as dedicated cycling routes and underground parking offers. Some reports suggest that rubbish collection will also happen via underground tunnels.
The start of Strand East (Danes Yard) is set to open in june/july 2012 with construction for the rest of ‘strand east’ planned to begin in 2013, with a five year turn-around.
