Researchers from UCLA and Hewlett-Packard’s HP Labs have created an algorithm which tells you which news tweets will be popular.
And you could be pretty unimpressed with the results…
You might want to put an exciting spin on your story to make it more popular on Twitter, but the scientists found that the tone of an article wasn’t likely to improve its views.
They did find, however, that if a tweet was attached to a person or credible company name, people would be more attracted to it.
The source of an article was also a good predictor of how popular it would be.
Overall, the most tweetable news areas were technology, followed by health and ‘fun stuff.’
The algorithm has had 84% when it comes to predicting the popularity of tweets.
Will we all be using algorithms for our social media accounts in the future?
