It seems that an eccentric 1979 interview with Tom Waits was the inspiration behind the accent and behaviour of Heath Ledger‘s Joker in 2008′s The Dark Knight, as the above video proves.
Ledger apparently studied the mannerisms and delivery of Waits and anyone who is familiar with the movie will see just how uncanny the similarities are when they fire up the clip.
