If you’ve passed through Trafalgar Square today there’s every chance you might have noticed something a little odd. Mainly that some of the areas most famous statues are this morning sporting some very colourful hats.
And it’s not just Trafalgar Square where some of London’s most instantly recognisable monuments are getting a fashionable make-over. Churchill on Bond Street, William Shakespeare in Leicester Square and Robert Burns on the Victoria Embankment can also be seen from today wearing hats designed by some of the world’s finest milliners.
The make-overs are all part of Hatwalk. A little like the elephants and BT phone boxes before it Hatwalk aims to raise money for children’s and educational charities. And the people behind the scheme have cleverly placed hats inspired by the Union Jack on 21 London statues.
If you want to check the statues out then you’ll need to be quick as the hats will only stay in place until Friday (3rd August).
