You may know Irish singer songwriter Gemma Hayes from her 2002 Mercury Prize nominated album ‘Night On Your Side’ or 2005′s follow up ‘The Roads Don’t Love You. Or perhaps not? Either way check out her brand new single ‘Shock To My System’ performed for The Naked Sessions’ project.
The idea behind The Naked Sessions was to record a full album with twelve different artists over just two days… on one microphone.
Wholed up at the legendary RAK studios in St John’s Wood, London the artists recorded with Grammy and Brit award winning production team, Bacon & Quarmby who have previously worked with the likes of The Pretenders, Finley Quay and The Long Pigs. With time so limited, there wase no overdubs, and artists were limited in the number of takes they could record. This immediacy helped the finished tracks feel extremely intimate, perfectly conveying the idea of ‘The Naked Sessions’.
The song is is taken from the Gemma’s forthcoming fourth studio album ‘Let It Break’, out in the UK on October 15th on Fullfill via Universal. Over the years, Gemma’s songs have appeared in countless TV programmes and films from Grey’s Anatomy to One Tree Hill and most recently The Vampire Diaries and the upcoming Abigail Breslin movie, Janie Jones.
