This is a nice way to start a Friday afternoon with some free music from American singer Perfume Genius.

Perfume Genius has long been a favourite for us in the WJ office. We were first introduced to his heart wrenching music when Rebecca from Slow Club mentioned to us that he was one of her favourite singers.

In the time since we first found out about him he’s released two critically acclaimed albums and to celebrate his success he’s giving away a free track, Rusty Chains, over on the Turnstile records website.

According to Perfume Genius the track is about a man who’s lover has died and he’s reflecting on their time together. The subject matter is very typical of Perfume Genius who is often branded controversial for his subject choices. In the past he’s sung about his sexuality, child abuse and suicide and his recent music video was banned by Youtube.
