Ahead of the release of their new album ‘Wonderful, Glorious‘ on February 4th, EELS are streaming the album in full via the Vagrant Records SoundCloud page and you can listen below:
The band have also premiered the brand new video for ‘New Alphabet‘
Picking up from where the video for ‘Peach Blossom’ left off, the video addresses an issue close to EELS leader E’s heart
E on the ‘New Alphabet’ video: “Adult male abuse is a widespread but little acknowledged problem in today’s society. Many grown men are victims of children’s senseless bullying. I have made the brave choice to speak up as a victim of these pint-sized terrorists. I am so tired of children picking on me. It is my hope that this video will serve as the first step in opening a dialogue between victims and community leaders that will one day lead to the end of this awful abuse.”
The ever-changing project of singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mark Oliver Everett (aka E), EELS recorded Wonderful, Glorious at Everett’s new Los Feliz, CA studio. Dubbed “The Compound,” the new space invigorated Everett’s writing process. “It was exciting,” he says, “it filled me with hope for limitless possibilities. And I realized I’d had a similar feeling when I first put the band together for the last two tours.” The band, which features guitarists The Chet and P-Boo, bass player Koool G Murder and drummer Knuckles, all had a hand in the writing of Wonderful, Glorious. “The only rule I had was ‘let’s try it,’” says Everett. “If anyone in the room had an idea, I’d say ‘let’s try it.’”
